For pet owners, installing a hidden fence may have crossed their mind once or twice. There are many misconceptions out there about hidden fences for your furry friend. “Will it hurt them?” is the number one question we get! Here, we’ve debunked a couple common hidden fence myths to put pet owner’s minds at ease:
Myth #1 “The shocks will hurt my dog!”
These aren’t actual shocks, but the correct term is “static correction”. Static shocks are similar to those if you rub a balloon on your hair and touch the fridge or rub your feet on the carpet and touch someone. Quite harmless! It’s an unpleasant, painless feeling and dogs will seek to avoid it. This helps train the dog on where they can go and not go.
Myth #2 “My dog will have side effects caused by the shock collar.”
First and foremost, a shock collar does not affect the nervous system of your pup! The pulse given doesn’t go any deeper than you dog’s skin, which means your pup’s health isn’t affected.
